The short answer
We make two kinds of shampoo bars. Premium is our concentrated shampoo bar formula that feels closest to liquid shampoo. Original is our larger, original shampoo bar formula made with plant oils and butters. Both are plastic free and can last up to 60 washes. The better one is the one that fits your hair and water.
Why we make two different shampoo bars
We’ve been making shampoo and conditioner bars in Oregon since 2018. At this point, we’ve made a lot of bars, talked to a lot of customers, and learned something pretty simple: there is no one shampoo bar that is perfect for everybody.
Hair type matters. Water matters. What you were using before matters. And not all shampoo bars are even the same kind of product. That is why we make two different lines.
Formula one · Premium
The Premium formula
Our Premium Shampoo Bars use our concentrated Premium formula. They lather easily, rinse cleanly, and behave more like the liquid shampoo most people are used to.
They are smaller because the formula is concentrated. Each 2.1 oz bar lasts up to 60 washes.
Formula two · Original
The Original shampoo bar
Our Original Shampoo Bars are the formula we started with, made with plant oils and butters. They are bigger, simpler, less expensive, and they have been part of Silver Falls since the beginning.
Each 3.65 oz bar lasts up to 60 washes. Hard water and hair type can matter more with the Original formula, which is one reason we keep both formulas around.
Premium Shampoo Bars
Regular or oily hair
Mango-Orange
Our easiest Premium starting point, with argan oil, mango and cocoa butters, and pro vitamin B5.
Fine or flat hair
Grapefruit Volumizing
Includes hydrolyzed rice protein and is made to give hair a little more body without weighing it down.
Blonde or grey hair
Lavender-Plum
The purple color helps with the look of unwanted warm tones, while plum oil, argan oil, and B5 round out the formula.
Coming and seasonal
We’re adding an Unscented Premium Shampoo Bar as a permanent option soon.
Peppermint-Vanilla and Autumn Breeze are seasonal favorites we expect to bring back. Peppermint-Vanilla might actually be my favorite shampoo bar we make.

What about conditioner bars?
You can absolutely use a shampoo bar without a conditioner bar. But if your hair normally needs conditioner, switching the shampoo to a bar does not suddenly change that.
Daily Conditioner is the everyday option. It gives you slip, detangling, and moisture without feeling overly heavy. It comes in Unscented, Lavender, and Oregon Mint.
Curly Conditioner is richer. We made it for curly, thick, dry, or generally thirsty hair that wants more conditioning.

There is no rule that says your shampoo and conditioner have to come from the same line. Mix and match based on what your hair actually needs.
Will your hair go through a transition period?
Maybe. But shampoo-bar advice on the internet gets weird fast, so this is worth saying plainly: your hair is not detoxing.
If a new bar leaves your hair waxy, greasy, heavy, or coated, that is a troubleshooting signal.
You may be using too much. Shampoo bars are concentrated.
You may need to rinse longer.
Hard water can make the Original formula behave differently.
You may have buildup from other products.
Or that particular formula simply may not be the best match for your hair.
Premium generally feels more familiar to people coming directly from liquid shampoo. Original can be more sensitive to water chemistry and hair type.

How to use a shampoo bar
Wet your hair completely.
Rub the bar directly over your hair a few times, or lather it between your hands first.
Massage the lather into your scalp.
Rinse really well.
Follow with conditioner if your hair needs it.
Let the bar dry between uses. A simple bar holder keeps it out of standing water.
Why bars in the first place?
For us, the point was never to make a worse shampoo and ask people to tolerate it because it came without a plastic bottle. The product still has to be good.
The bonus is that a concentrated bar is small, easy to ship, easy to travel with, and does not require another plastic shampoo bottle every time you run out.
