Viori vs. Kitsch: what’s actually different?

Both offer rice-focused shampoo bars. They use different recipes.

Viori’s Hidden Waterfall formula lists Longsheng rice water and hydrolyzed rice protein. It also includes cocoa and shea butters, jojoba oil, glycerin, and the cleanser sodium cocoyl isethionate.¹

Kitsch’s Rice Water bar highlights hydrolyzed rice protein. Its cleansing system combines sodium cocoyl isethionate and sodium methyl cocoyl taurate.² Those long names are cleansing ingredients, the part of the formula that helps wash your hair.

The distinction matters: rice water and rice protein aren’t the same ingredient. Seeing “rice” on two labels doesn’t tell you that the bars will lather, rinse, or leave your hair feeling the same.

If Longsheng rice water is specifically what you’re looking for, Viori lists it. If you’re comparing rice-protein formulas, include the whole recipe in that comparison. Our Grapefruit Premium bar contains hydrolyzed rice protein too, alongside argan oil, pro vitamin B5, mango butter, and cocoa butter.

Viori’s bar is currently $11.75; Kitsch’s is $16. Our Grapefruit Premium is $12.94 unwrapped. Price helps narrow the choice. An ingredient list alone can’t tell us which will give your hair the best result.

Two details are easy to miss: Ethique’s Volumising bar contains sodium coco-sulfate, so don’t assume every solid shampoo is sulfate-free. HiBAR Maintain contains a honey-derived ingredient, so check the exact formula if you’re shopping vegan.

Premium: creamy lather and a more conditioned feel

Premium combines cleansing ingredients with argan oil, pro vitamin B5, and mango and cocoa butters. It’s a concentrated 2.1-ounce bar, with separate options for regular or oily hair, volume, and blonde or grey hair.

Original: our larger, everyday bar

Original is a 3.65-ounce bar made with oils including coconut, olive, castor, and sunflower, plus cocoa butter. It starts at $10.15 unwrapped and includes our fragrance-free option.

This is a different formula, not a larger version of Premium. If you already love Original, there’s no reason to change just because another bar says “Premium.”

Here’s where we’d start

For conditioner, choose Daily for lightweight conditioning, or Curly for more slip and moisture. Apply it mainly to the lengths and ends.

Shampoo and conditioner bar sets: what do you get?

If you’re replacing both bottles, compare the pair. The shampoo price alone won’t tell you what the whole routine costs.

A few things worth knowing before you switch

Don’t choose by wash count alone.

We say up to 60 washes for our shampoo bars. How long yours lasts depends on your hair, how much you use, and how it dries between washes. Another brand’s wash-count claim isn’t a controlled comparison with ours.

Start with less than you think.

Wet your hair thoroughly. Swipe the wet bar over your hair a few times, massage the lather through your roots, and rinse well. Add more only if you need it. You don’t need to keep rubbing the bar over every inch of your hair.

Let the bar dry.

A draining dish, away from the shower spray, helps your bar last. For travel, let it dry before closing it in a container.
